New PLACE Partner Chris Colgan wants to help others succeed and expand his business through whatever changes the real estate market may bring. With PLACE, Colgan feels he can stay on track to achieve his goals.

Colgan, a native of Northern Virginia, has been a real estate professional for 19 years. His interest in real estate was first sparked by his grandfather, Senator Charles Colgan. Colgan was licensed in 2003 and quickly figured out that he had a passion for all things real estate. “It took a lot of hard work,” he said. “I worked my sphere, I bought leads, and I built a lot of business through radio ads.” As the media market changed, so did Colgan’s strategy. Now, thousands of people visit his YouTube and Instagram channels daily for the latest listing updates, insight on happenings in Northern Virginia, and tips about the local housing market with some light-hearted humor on the side.

Colgan has experience as a solo agent, as a buyer’s agent on a team, and as a team leader for both small and large teams. “I had a huge team, but I was never thrilled with the training investment, lead generation costs, and agent turnover rates,” he said. “I now have a smaller team, but the margins are the same.”

Colgan lived and succeeded through the market change that began in 2008 and he is aptly preparing for another possible shift. “I weathered the storm and it taught me a lot,” said Colgan. “Now, as the market is shifting again, I see the signs and am preparing for it through hard work, cutting expenses, and riding it out.”
