Meserve’s journey to becoming CEO of one of the most red-hot real estate firms in the Greater Boston Area began when she bought her first home. Her agent – noting Kimberlee’s amiable personality, stellar communication skills, and smarts – suggested she’d make a top-notch agent.

Starting out, Meserve relied on the age-old advice of tapping your sphere of influence to cultivate potential clients. But, being in her twenties, she found most in her circle didn’t feel ready to buy a house.

“Through conversations with peers, I quickly learned that most of them felt they couldn’t afford to buy,” explained Meserve. “In actuality, they stood to save money by buying as opposed to renting. I saw a massive opportunity for education around getting started with homeownership, so I started a first-time homebuyers workshop.”

While the workshops weren’t instantly successful (only two people attended the first), Meserve understood the importance of iterating (she held the next workshop at a brewery instead of an office) and consistency. “It’s not about a singular event. It’s about consistency,“ she said. “Just because you try something once, and only two people show up, doesn’t mean you should give up.”

Meserve’s first-time homebuyer workshops gained traction over time, allowing her to steadily build brand awareness and equity, grow her team, and forge lasting connections. The success of her workshops underscored the importance of providing undeniable value to every client, no matter what stage they are at. “My mission is to provide value through education,” said Meserve. “When you provide people with value upfront, they will always come back to you.”

As her business has grown, Meserve has identified a few tenets that she feels set her and her team apart. The first is that she would never consider herself a salesperson. “We want our clients to find us grounded, relatable, and to see us as trusted guides, ready to help, not salespeople,” explained Meserve. “And, based on the feedback we’ve received, we are achieving that.”

The other is that she was able to identify a niche and use it as a lever to grow a well-rounded business with diversified lead sources. “Find your niche, dive into it, and be authentic,” said Meserve. Currently, 30 percent of her business consists of first-time homebuyers, 30 percent are agent referrals, and the remaining are client referrals.
